National Lampoon’s Romping Online Video

National Lampoon has decided to expand its stake in the Web video market, the company already produces feature films and short video content on AOL Video and Brightcove, which runs Nationallampoon.com and TogaTV.com.

“Everything we develop or produce today, whether it’s audio for the radio network or video or film, has an online component,” said National Lampoon Chief Executive Daniel Laikin.

Talk about a real “Animal House” video portal..!!

Mark Cuban Laughs at HD Web Video Streaming

Mark Cuban, founder of HD.net, said that the Internet’s “ancient technology” of copper wires and coaxial cable means that reliable streaming of high def. content is a non-starter. Internet video is only as good as its weakest link, he said, and that’s “pretty weak”.

The concept of web-delivered video replacing traditional TV was “laughable” and “not even on the radar”. [at least for the time being - eds]

We’re not too surprised.. considering his business model. :roll:

A Camcorder Designed for Internet Video Sharing

A new lightweight camcorder designed for easy video uploads is coming from RCA, the Small Wonder weighs about 5 ounces and operates without tapes, discs, cumbersome batteries or complicated instructions.

The camcorder has a built-in Memory Manager video sharing application that lets users save, compress, edit, e-mail and upload video files, or select any paused frame and save it as a .JPG or .BMP image.

To promote the new camcorder, RCA is sponsoring a Wonder Woofs contest for dog owners. Bark for your dinner!

Tubearoo Launches Chinese Video Site

Tubearoo is building a network of internet video, social networking and people-powered websites, which currently consists of Tubearoo.com, Shoutwire.com and Tubearoo.cn. Catering to Chinese speaking internet users who wish to view, upload and share video, revenue from online video in China is expected to rise 580 per cent by 2010, according to this article.

Washington Post Snags PrezVid.com

The Washington Post announced a relationship with video blog PrezVid.com, the latest production from blogger and media critic Jeff Jarvis and partner Peter Hauck, to provide the site’s “Politics” section.

Jarvis praised the daily (oh dear) for inventing a new relationship with an independent news blog; “This is an important experiment, showing how a news organization can expand by building a broader network of coverage through independent blogs.”

Ozzie Leading Us Towards the SilverLight

Microsoft has outlined its vision for the web at its Mix 07 event in Las Vegas. In his keynote speech, the corporation’s chief software architect Ray Ozzie summarised his vision for the future of the Microsoft-powered internet. He gave further details on Microsoft Silverlight, the corporation’s answer to the well-established Flash tech for web video delivery.

Ozzie said it will “change the game” for web video before introducing Silverlight Streaming. This free service will store and stream video clips into Web pages.. astounding!
